Monuments Unseen
The work Monuments Unseen is an exploration of space—physical, political, and historical. On invitation to become an anarchivist of the work "Rats on the Run" by United Fried Front at Roodkapje, I used textiles referring to the material of collective resistance in the form of banners and balaclavas. I collected visual material sampling and remixing imagery found in different archives. Inspired by the speeches of Sunshine and Mustapha Eaisaouiyen in the film "Rats on the Run", I attempt through collage and fabric, to challenge the dominant narrative that is reinforced by statues, buildings, and social monuments. It explores the processes of social justice movements that infiltrate, reshape, and reclaim what has been taken. 'Monuments Unseen' is on view at Roodkapje throughout 2025.
On display at Roodkapje, 2025
